Send a Kid to Camp

The City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department offers a free eight week summer camp at multiple park locations throughout the city for youth ages *5 to 13. Send A Kid to Camp will begin on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 and operate through Friday, July 28, 2023. Camp will not be held Monday, June 19, or Tuesday, July 4, in observance of Juneteenth and Independence Day.

PROGRAM UPDATE - JULY 2023

As the weather forecast continues to call for temperatures and heat indexes to reach or exceed 105+ degrees for the foreseeable future, all Send A Kid To Camp outdoor summer camp sites will operate on a modified schedule through the end of our camp season, July 28, 2023. Please know these changes are being made to protect the health of your children and our staff members and we regret any inconvenience this schedule change may cause.

Effective Immediately the modified schedule will be as follows:

  • Camps: will operate Monday – Friday
  • Non-Field Trip Days: camps will operate from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm and meal service will be provided
  • Field Trip Days: camps will operate from 9:00 am until 30 minutes after the bus returnsto the camp site
    •  Campers will attend field trips that provide opportunities to stay cool (water parks, pools, indoor venues)

Additionally, participants are encouraged to wear cool, light weight clothing, wear sunscreen and take water breaks to stay hydrated. 

Program Benefits

Our camps provide opportunities for children to disconnect from technology and become more physically active. Campers experience success and become more confident by participating in team and individual activities and develop a life skill and interest in something they had little to no experience in. In addition, our campers become more independent by learning to do things on their own all while improving their social skills and making lasting friendships.

Activities

Your child will be engaged in a structured and safe environment that provides a variety of physical and educational activities. Activities include arts and craft classes, sports clinics, fitness sessions, cultural and enrichment classes, games, and much more. Lunch and a snack are provided at all SAKTC locations.

How to Qualify 

To qualify for the program, a child must be between the ages of 5*-13, a reside in Dallas. If camp is held at a school, the child must attend the school of where the OST program will be held. (*5 as of September 1, 2022)

How to Register

Registration is open to all City of Dallas youth ages 5*-13 . Program registration will occur Monday, June 5th from 9:00am-12:00pm. You must be a City of Dallas resident to register in a SAKTC program. Proof of residency is required. Space is limited and filled on a first come first served basis. Once a location is full, we will begin placing campers on a waiting list. Arrive at the desired camp location on Monday, June 5th from 9:00am-12:00pm to secure your spot!
