In February of 1967 the Dallas City Council authorized the Department of Urban Rehabilitation to begin developing and constructing the Crossroads Community Center. It took seven years to complete the project which originally had only the recreation center, the day care center and the library. In January of 1975, the complex was renamed to honor Dr. Martin Luther King and the formal dedication was held in June 1975.
