Harwood Park is a community gathering and play space with unique connections to history and nature that leverages the cultural memory of this rich and powerful life way in Downtown Dallas. It incorporates historic buildings with active and passive recreational spaces that highlight striking views of nearby architecturally significant structures.

The heart of the park is a half-acre great lawn, surrounded by multiple active and passive zones interwoven with the site’s preserved historic buildings. The Harwood and Jackson entry is anchored by an arbor and lawn space called "Gold Ring Green". The gold rings that make up the arbor were salvaged from the old Statler Hotel parking garage that once sat near the park. The Gold Ring Pavilion covers a plaza below and faces an open lawn for events and gatherings.

A shaded promenade arcs through the middle of the park and is centered on a water-harvesting rain garden. Not only will this rain garden contribute to the beauty of the park, but it will also display the best of low-impact design technologies by capturing rainwater to irrigate the garden and utilizing the plants and soil as green infrastructure to mitigate flooding issues.

The recreational focal point of the park tells the story of the landscape of Dallas one hundred thousand years ago as a grassy savanna where Colombian Mammoths once roamed. These ‘Ghost Mammoths’ are giant sculptural play elements surrounded by trees and grasses allowing children of all ages and abilities to engage around, under, and in them with a multitude of play features. Other recreational elements include all ability swings, an interactive water feature, and a multi-function sports court for pickleball and basketball.
