As the response to the COVID-19 emergency continues, please know that we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the public’s and employee safety while implementing the phased re-opening plan. After briefings to the Park and Recreation Board along with the Quality of Life, Arts and Culture Committee and the Ad Hoc Committee on COVID-19 Human and Social Recovery and Assistance, we intend to implement Phase II on Friday, May 22nd.
As a reminder, on May 1, 2020, we were able to successfully re-open golf courses, tennis centers, the Elm Fork gun range, and outdoor fee-based instructor programs by following all relevant executive orders related to social distancing and other safety measures recommended by public health officials. As a result of developing protocols and procedures and distributing that information to our partners, there were not any reports of significant issues related to the measures that were enacted.
Moving forward and in an effort to test re-opening policies and procedures, a limited opening began at the Dallas Arboretum on May 15th (open to public June 1st) and will occur at the Dallas Zoo on May 25th (open to public May 29th). Each operation will implement practices that will endeavor to ensure public safety, social distancing, and sanitation of the facilities and equipment during this time.
As a continuation of our next steps, the following facilities and events will be open and available beginning Friday, May 22, 2020:
- Phase II (Limited Outdoor Events, Facilities and Rentals)
- Dog Parks
- Skatepark
- Disk Golf
- Park Pavilion Reservations (Limited to 15 people)
- Small Outdoor Events (Limited to 15 people)
- Rowing Clubs
We believe we have a good plan for our phased re-openings, and we will routinely evaluate these operations and our procedures to ensure we are protecting our customers and employees to the greatest extent possible.
