Stage is set for one runaway hit after another.
The best of Broadway is just a ticket away with the 2009 Dallas Summer Musicals. This season will be positively Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!, with seven hits that have to be seen to be believed…from flying cars to floating nannies. Marvelous old favorites and fun new musical creations provide nonstop singing, dancing and celebrating.
Happy Days, A New Musical
Monday, Tuesday, any day of the week is the perfect time to travel back to 1959 Milwaukee for Happy Days, A New Musical. Fonzie, Richie Cunningham, Joanie, Chachi and the whole sock-hoppin’ bunch are all on hand to help save Arnold’s Drive-In from demolition. Ayyy—don’t miss the swell fun! Runs May 26 through June 7.
The Wizard of Oz
When the massive twister sweeps across Dorothy’s Kansas farm in the most magical and lavish production ever of The Wizard of Oz, it will practically blow the audience away! There’s no place like Home, Emerald City or Munchkin Land for that matter, because the art deco elegance of Hollywood and riveting special effects are so enchanting. The Wicked Witch, Dorothy, Toto and all their companions will captivate too. Truly a musical for the Ages, for all ages. Runs June 9 through June 21.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
You’ll believe a car can fly, as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang sails across the countryside on a truly delightful journey. The sets and special effects are sweet as can be, and the songs—like “Truly Scrumptious” and “Hushabye Mountain”—are completely irresistible! Runs June 23 through July 5.
A Chorus Line
Feel every drop of sweat, every intense moment of auditioning for a new Broadway musical as A Chorus Line triumphantly returns to Dallas. Winner of scores of awards, the longest-running Broadway musical in history takes the day-to-day lives and dreams of a group of dancers to a new level of passion. Runs July 7 through July 19.
Legally Blonde, The Musical.
The musical TIME Magazine calls “An Elle of a Show” is doing justice to the stage in a big way. Legally Blonde, The Musical, will make you laugh, cheer and turn pink with excitement. Heroine Elle Woods’ antics lead her and Bruiser the chihuahua from the Delta Nu sorority house to the halls of Harvard Law School. Runs July 21 through August 2.
Mamma Mia!
Looking for a true feel-good musical? Back by popular demand, Mamma Mia! takes the songs of Swedish supergroup ABBA and creates a fun marriage of family and friendship set on a Greek island. You’ll be singing along to “Take A Chance On Me,” “Dancing Queen” and other hits as a daughter gets ready for her wedding…with some surprise revelations. Runs August 19 through August 30.
Disney and Cameron Mackintosh present Mary Poppins
“Practically perfect in every way” describes the most extraordinary nanny ever to gently descend on the wind into turn-of-the-century London, parrot umbrella in hand. Disney’s Mary Poppins is a musical treat, arriving just in time to spice up the lives of Jane and Michael Banks, and their straight-laced father. The music and lively choreography will send you soaring high as a kite. Of course you’ll be humming “Chim Chim Cheree” and “A Spoonful of Sugar” as Mary, Bert and their amazing friends kick up their heels. Spit, spot, hurry and reserve your seats now for this year’s State Fair Musical, featuring original Broadway stars Ashley Brown and Gavin Lee! Mary Poppins runs September 24 through October 18.
