Some say it was love at first sight for two Senior Club participants at the K.B. Polk Recreation Center, but it depends who you ask.
Mrs. Vera Reese is a longtime Senior Club participant, who recently married Mr. Albert Walker, another Senior Club participant but she says it all started off as a joke.
“On his first day at the recreation center, he stood up, introduced himself and said he was looking for a girlfriend,” said Mrs. Reese. “I wasn’t there that day but I heard all about it so when I met him I told him I was single and ready to mingle!”
Mrs. Reese said everyone laughed except for him. Mr. Walker was serious about his intentions of finding a love connection. He had just moved to Dallas from California, to spend more time with his daughter. His daughter encouraged him to join the Senior Club after hearing about it from friends.
“Mr. Walker joined the Senior Club back in September and has been coming faithfully ever since,” said Lolita Smith, Manager of the K.B. Polk Recreation Center. “You could see the connection between the two within weeks.”
Mrs. Reese and Mr. Walker quickly became friends and realized they had lots in common. Mr. Walker didn’t waste any time and popped the question in December.
“He asked me to marry him and I told him let me think about it,” said Mrs. Reese. “There’s not much to do after you reach a certain age and you become lonely so it took me a couple of days but I told him yes.”
