Dallas Center for Architecture Fair Park Walking Tour
Wednesday, January 17, 2018
First established for the Dallas State Fair in 1886, Fair Park is one of Dallas’ greatest assets and has been named a National Historic Landmark. In partnership with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, the Dallas Center for Architecture presents hour-long lunchtime walking tours of this Art Deco gem on the third Wednesday of each month. They are free and open to the public. In 1936, Fair Park was transformed for the Texas Centennial Exposition. Architect George Dahl and score of architects and craftsmen created what is today the finest collection of Art Deco exhibition buildings in the world. On the tour, you’ll learn about this process and the individuals involved, as well as recent and ongoing efforts to preserve and transform this architectural gem. The tour begins at noon at the Parry Street entrance gate adjacent to the DART stop.
